Amy Winehouse Was Planning a Jazz Supergroup

Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse had planned to form a supergroup to record a jazz album before she died.

The Back to Black singer was hoping to team with drummer Questlove of The Roots and saxophone player Soweto Kinch to make the record, according to producer Salaam Remi.

"There were a bunch of other names bouncing around," Remi added, speaking at a playback of Amy's posthumous Lioness: Hidden Treasures collection. He knew of Amy's plans as "she had written down everything she wanted to do."

He also talked about how the singer and songwriter was a perfectionist when it came to her songs and - as they were mostly drawn from her life experiences - was meticulous in crafting them: "She was taking her time with it, and at the end of the day all of her songs are somewhat autobiographical. So she had to live through something, then get out of it and look back at it, to be able to write about it."

Green Day Tributes Amy Winehouse

Green Day have unveiled a tribute to late singer Amy Winehouse. The American Idiot rockers debuted the new track - which makes references to the "Rehab" hitmaker's troubled life up to her unexpected death on July 23 - at a secret show at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, California, on Thursday.

According to lyrics posted on the band's official website, the opening lines are, "Amy, is your heart singing out of tune/ Are your eyes just singing the blues/ Dirty records from another time/ Some blood stains on your shoes."

The final part of the track laments Amy's premature death at the age of 27, as well as the drug and alcohol addictions which had plagued the star throughout since 2006: "You're too young for the golden age/ 'Cause the record bin's been replaced/ 27 gone without a trace/ And you walked away from your drink."

Green Day are the latest artists to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse, after U2, M.I.A., Coldplay and Dionne Bromfield have all dedicated tracks or dedicated parts of their live shows to the star.

Amy Winehouse Pleads Guilty to Assault

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Gossip, R&B / Soul,

Amy Winehouse has pleaded guilty to common assault and disorder.

The “Back to Black” singer appeared in Milton Keynes Magistrates Court this morning to answer charges relating to an incident last month, where she lashed out at a theatre manager following a foul-mouthed outburst.

The troubled star - who was charged under her married name of Amy Civil - was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay $138 in costs and $163 in compensation to her victim, front of house manager Richard Pound.

Passing sentence, district judge Peter Crabtree said it was clear alcohol had paid a massive part in the incident. “Mr. Pound is a person whose job involves interaction with the public. If he’s assaulted he deserves the court’s protection. In this case it’s obvious that alcohol played its part,” he stated.

Amy Winehouse Sings Backup for Goddaughter

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Gossip,

Amy Winehouse has created her own record label to launch her goddaughter’s career.

The “Rehab” singer is expecting 13-year-old Dionne Bromfield to better her own successes when she releases her first album next month on Amy’s own Lioness Records.

“The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, such an amazing voice from such a young girl. She’s so much better than I was at her age. I’m just so proud of her,” she said. “I’m very lucky to have a record label. I’ve got all these people that I love that are really talented - and Dionne is my number one.”

Amy - who sings backing vocals on Dionne’s album - has a close relationship with the teenager and thinks she can have a long and fantastic career. “She’s a great songwriter and guitarist but I want her to experience life so she can write more,” Winehouse told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “Singing songs that are so personal, it’s deep. But she knows what she’s doing. To be honest, when I say Dionne’s like my sister, a lot of the time she’s like my older sister.”

The 26-year-old also revealed she has named her company in honor of her beloved grandma Cynthia, who gave her a lioness pendant before she passed away a few years ago. “My nanny was like my best friend. She was the sweetest, strongest, most amazing person I ever met. When I was thinking of what to call the label, I picked up the necklace and knew straight away that I’d call it Lioness in honor of her,” she explained.

Duffy next to record Bond theme song?

Duffy James Bond themeDuffy may be the voice behind the next James Bond theme. Work has already started on the follow-up to Quantum of Solace, starring as the British spy, and one of the film’s producers wants the Welsh Duffy to record the title song.

Producer Michael G. Wilson told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “I would love to get to sing the next tune. I think she is wonderful. Amy Winehouse would be good too.
“We have started work on the new film, which I can’t say anything about. Daniel Craig is very keen to get going.”

Back to Black singer Amy Winehouse was due to submit a track for Quantum of Solace with producer Mark Ronson, but sessions were stopped as she reportedly “wasn’t ready” to record.  Another Way To Die, performed by Jack White of The White Stripes and soul singer Alicia Keys, was later chosen as the theme song.

Duffy, whose song Mercy picked up the PRS Most Performed Work prize at the Ivor Novello Awards - has revealed she is to make her film debut, although admits she isn’t too enthusiastic about it.  She reportedly said: “I’m making a movie. It’ll probably be rubbish.” If Duffy does sing the theme for the next James Bond film she will be the third Welsh artist to contribute to the spy series, after Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.
